Here's a 1:6 scale figure that no one would in their right mind would actually consider making: Aelia (Aimi) from Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Most of you probably don't know who that is.
Made of over 50 Magic: the Gathering cards. Uses a pseudo Obitsu structure for the body, made of Magic: the Gathering cards. Fully poseable. If interested about the body base, inquire for details. References used: the Valkyrie Profile Material Collection Artbook.
Armor is made of Magic: the Gathering cards, 110lb cardstock and lots of toxic/flammable enamel paint. Armor is fastened by small belt straps and buckles made of ribbon and paper clips, so it can be removed entirely. Armor is not rigid; it allows the doll base underneath to move and do a variety of poses.
Spear head is made from Magic: the Gathering cards. Shaft is made from copper wire, a bamboo stick and 110lb cardstock. Sword is made from paper clips, printer paper and Magic: the Gathering cards. Sword can be unsheathed. Yes, that is a coil for a spear shaft. Yes, that's how it looks from the concept art.
Project started late February, 2009, finished June 13, 2009, working mainly on weekends.
Wow. That is bad ass!!! I have a question, is there a journal or site that describes your technique??? Also why do you use Magic cards??? Sorry for the questions I just find your work to be facinating. ^_^
I try to log some of my techniques on my blog which can be found here: [link] . Right now, it's largely visual documentation on work progress. Any technique documented on my blog is something I still use and have saved for personal reference.
I played Magic: the Gathering from 1999 (Urza's Block/Mercadian Masques) until Mirrodin block, and over time I amassed a lot of unplayable cards that will never see use. I was working with papercraft at the time, and figured, "man, I have all these unplayable cards. I'm gonna see if I can make something with it." They proved to be strong, reliable building materials if prepared properly.
Hmm, interesting. Thank you for taking the time to reply. ^_^ Have you ever thought about making some tutorials? I don't know about anyone else but I know I'd be interested. XD Well keep up the great work. ^_^
very nice work getting the fine details!
i remember when i was younger i used to watch my friends play the first valkyrie profile, and i remember the art was fantastic.
you did a great job replicating the character in cardstock form!
